What inspires me.
How I art up my clients' lives.
Art is the key to everything and nothing.

Viktoria Koestler was born in Munich and now lives and works in Zurich. She was raised as the daughter of an artist and has spent much of her life painting and experimenting with her creativity.

Then, in 2016, she started her professional art career after leaving her job at a management consultancy. She now works in an art studio in the center of Zurich. A lot of her inspiration comes from Switzerland’s beautiful nature and her contact with extraordinary personalities.

Over the last three years she has built her exhibition record, and her artworks can be seen in different countries. During her recent artist residency in New York City, she also got the chance to exhibit her work in an art gallery on the Lower East Side.

“ART CAN DO WHAT THE BANALITY OF THE EVERYDAY PROHIBITS”

“I paint light with 24-carat gold“

My art is meant to give people hope in this uncertain world. In our world of today, we are constantly dealing with change and uncertainty. The recent pandemic of Coronavirus has demonstrated that there is no way back to the ‘old world’. New creation is required: a new meaningful definition of how we want to live and how we treat the most precious thing we have, our natural environment.

I use 24-carat gold in my artwork. In my art, gold represents light. As no life can exist without light, the gold represents invaluable life in our world. The light in my art also reflects the unlimited possibilities of our minds. A real example where real gold was used in similarly representational paintings was the byzantine icons. The gold in these religiously significant paintings represents the eternal light - the concept of which, some of us are already familiar.

I create my work by utilizing the rare and ancient byzantine 'water gilding’ technique to apply the gold to my abstract landscape paintings. This ancient technique allows the crafter to polish the gold to a mirror finish with an agate stone, the exact practice employed over 1,500 years ago. Interestingly no machine today can recreate the results in the same manner, only the persistence of skilled human hands successfully achieve these results. I find this a significantly meaningful contrast between the skilled labors of human hands and today’s world of machined and digitized production.

THE CONCEPT OF REDOUTSIDE REVEALED

RedOutside. Art inside.
The artist’s works are distinguished by the striking red that covers the outer surfaces of their stretched canvasses or wooden painting panels, which vary in thickness from 2–12cm. This identifying marker provides all her artworks with their name: RedOutside.

For these edges the artist uses a bold lacquer red displaying a glossy finish, and every original artwork is stamped with the RedOutside logo. RedOutside is a registered Swiss trademark.

Thus a picture frame becomes superfluous. The glossy red finish of the outer edges provides every painting with a noble and simultaneously modern aura.
